Overview of 2025 J.League attendance
The record-breaking total reflects not only the title race in J1 and the promotion and relegation battles across all divisions, but also the efforts of clubs to improve the matchday experience. Family-friendly initiatives, local community engagement and a more attractive in-stadium environment all contributed to the growth in crowds.

J1 leads the way, with J2 and J3 also growing
J1 recorded a total of 8,073,557 spectators and an average crowd of 21,246 per match, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. J2 and J3 also showed steady growth, with averages of 8,888 and 3,760 respectively, underlining that fan interest is rising across all three tiers.
Play-off ties and promotion/relegation deciders once again proved to be major attractions, combining high-stakes football with intense stadium atmospheres. These matches have become key fixtures in the calendar for both local fans and neutral supporters.
Beyond the numbers: evolving matchday experiences
The increase in attendance is closely linked to efforts made by clubs and the league to upgrade the overall matchday experience. Improved stadium facilities, local food offerings, family areas and fan events have helped to turn matchdays into full-day experiences rather than “just a game”.
Looking ahead, the J.League aims to further integrate in-stadium and digital experiences, so that following the league via broadcasts and streaming services complements, rather than replaces, live attendance.
